A suspect was arrested by the NYPD with the help of Shomrim after he held up a store cashier at knifepoint inside a local deli.
The incident began when Shomrim received a hotline call about a suspicious individual wandering the streets, as crowds filled the area with shoppers. Volunteers responded quickly and kept a close watch on the man, who was acting increasingly suspicious.
Shortly after, the suspect entered a deli, where Shomrim volunteers observed him pull out a large knife and approach the cashier, demanding money. The cashier began screaming, causing the suspect to panic and flee the store still holding the weapon.
The NYPD was alerted and began responding, but with the streets full of people preparing for Shabbos and Yom Tov, Shomrim volunteers immediately recognized the danger to the public. They sprang into action, quickly and professionally disarmed the suspect, and removed the knife from his possession. Seconds later, the NYPD arrived and, with the help of Shomrim, stopped the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The store owner was shocked by the incident and expressed relief that it ended quickly and without injury. Bystanders who witnessed the scene were stunned by the size of the weapon and praised the rapid response.
