Shomrim volunteers on patrol observed a vehicle in which individuals were allegedly taking mail from multiple mailboxes while traveling through the area. The vehicle was seen stopping near mailboxes as the suspects quickly removed mail and continued along the route, striking several mailboxes.
Shomrim volunteers immediately alerted additional Shomrim personnel and maintained visual contact with the vehicle from a safe distance. The information was promptly relayed to the New York City Police Department.
NYPD units were dispatched and responded to the area. Upon noticing police response, the vehicle attempted to flee, at one point driving onto sidewalks during the incident, and ultimately struck a pole, bringing it to a stop.
The three individuals inside the vehicle were taken into custody by the NYPD with the assistance of Shomrim at the scene. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of multiple pieces of mail that had been taken from the mailboxes.
