Two individuals were arrested by the NYPD with the help of Shomrim after they were caught stealing packages in the neighborhood. The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon as Erev Purim traffic filled the streets.
Shomrim received a call from a concerned resident reporting two males stealing packages on 59th Street. Volunteers quickly responded, locating the suspects and notifying the NYPD while keeping them under close watch. As the suspects moved through the area, Shomrim volunteers continued to track their movements and provide live updates.
At one point, the suspects boarded a city bus in an attempt to evade detection. Shomrim volunteers stayed on their trail, relaying crucial information to responding officers. The NYPD ultimately stopped the bus and took the suspects into custody. Further investigation revealed that, in addition to multiple stolen packages, one of the individuals was also in possession of a knife and brass knuckles.
The stolen items were recovered, and the suspects face charges related to theft and illegal weapon possession.
