What began as a search for a lost shtreimel turned into a remarkable display of coordination between Shomrim divisions, leading to its successful recovery a few days later.
A man contacted Shomrim after realizing that he had traveled from Williamsburg to Boro Park in a car service and had left his expensive shtreimel behind. With no clear details on which car service or vehicle was involved, Boro Park and Williamsburg Shomrim volunteers immediately got to work, reviewing security footage and piecing together the puzzle. After successfully identifying the car and the car service, an alert was sent to Shomrim volunteers across multiple neighborhoods to remain on the lookout.
A few days later, a volunteer in Boro Park spotted the vehicle on the road. Shomrim volunteers followed the car until the driver came to a stop, where they approached him and inquired about a round box containing a fur hat, explaining that they were referring to a shtreimel. The driver admitted that the hat was at his home in Queens, as he had not known what it was or whom it belonged to. Shomrim took his contact information, and Boro Park Shomrim quickly relayed the details to Queens Shomrim. Volunteers in Queens made their way to the driver’s house, retrieved the shtreimel, and ensured it was safely returned to its rightful owner.
The owner was overjoyed to have his expensive shtreimel back, thanks to Shomrim’s relentless dedication and teamwork.
