Shomrim received a call reporting a male breaking car windows and damaging vehicle mirrors in the neighborhood.
Shomrim volunteers quickly responded and obtained a description of the suspect. As Shomrim volunteers began canvassing the surrounding streets to pick up eyes on the individual, Shomrim IT units immediately started reviewing nearby camera footage to determine the suspect’s direction of travel.
The suspect was already well known to many local residents in the area around Ft. Hamilton Parkway and 11th and 12th Avenues, particularly between 57th, 58th, 59th, and 60th Streets, where neighbors have repeatedly complained about his disruptive behavior and incidents of vehicles being damaged.
Within minutes, a Shomrim volunteer spotted the individual, confirmed that it was the well-known suspect from the area, and immediately alerted the Shomrim volunteers canvassing nearby. Shomrim volunteers maintained eyes on the suspect while notifying the NYPD and continuously relayed his updated location as he moved through the streets.
The NYPD arrived quickly after and placed the suspect under arrest.
The suspect is believed to be responsible for a series of incidents in which numerous vehicles had their windows smashed and mirrors damaged, causing significant frustration for local residents and vehicle owners.
