At approximately 3:00 a.m., Shomrim volunteers on night patrol noticed a suspicious individual walking into driveways. Sensing that something was not right, the volunteer immediately alerted additional Shomrim volunteers to assist in following the suspect from a distance so he would not become aware he was being followed.
While maintaining a safe distance, Shomrim volunteers followed the suspect on foot and closely monitored his actions. During this time, the suspect was observed entering the hallway of a residential building and removing property. Moments later, he was seen breaking into a parked vehicle and taking items from inside.
Shomrim promptly notified the NYPD and provided real-time updates on the suspect’s movements and location. Officers responded to the area and stopped the suspect.
NYPD, with the help of Shomrim, arrested the suspect. Multiple stolen items were recovered from his possession.
Shomrim reminds residents to always double-check that their vehicles are locked and to avoid leaving valuables inside, as simple precautions can help prevent thefts and keep the community safer.
