At around 4:00 a.m., a Shomrim volunteer on patrol noticed a double-parked pickup truck on 18th Avenue. He immediately requested additional volunteers to help keep an eye. After observing the scene, it became clear that the driver had stepped out of the vehicle and was removing packages from a UPS drop-off box.
While the volunteer watched the suspect breaking open the boxes, 911 was dispatched. As soon as the driver realized he was being watched, he jumped back into the pickup truck and drove off. Shomrim volunteers followed the vehicle while updating the NYPD with his location, and after several blocks, the suspect was stopped by the NYPD and was taken into custody.
A large number of stolen packages were recovered from the vehicle, helping prevent further losses for local residents and businesses.
This incident highlights the importance of the ongoing Shomrim patrols and their close coordination with the NYPD to keep the community safe. As the Shomrim campaign is currently live, community members are encouraged to donate and support the vital work that helps protect our neighborhood.
