A dangerous situation was stopped before it could turn into disaster, thanks to the coordinated efforts of Shomrim, the FDNY, and the NYPD.
While on patrol, a Shomrim volunteer noticed flames coming from a nearby construction shed dangerously close to a parked car. The suspect had wanted to set vehicles on fire and began by igniting the shed. The FDNY was immediately dispatched to the scene, preventing the fire from spreading further and threatening nearby property. Firefighters arrived within moments and extinguished the blaze, though the parked vehicle sustained damage.
At the same time, the Shomrim IT team reviewed security cameras in the area and discovered that the fire had been deliberately set. With this information, they quickly provided a detailed description of the suspect to Shomrim volunteers patrolling the neighborhood.
Before long, a volunteer spotted an individual matching the description. Shomrim began monitoring the suspect’s movements closely while keeping in constant communication with the NYPD. Officers soon arrived, and with Shomrim’s guidance, placed the arsonist under arrest.
