A suspect who boldly walked out of a local store carrying a brand new air conditioner in broad daylight didn’t get far, thanks to the rapid response of Shomrim.

The store owner immediately contacted Shomrim after witnessing the theft. Shomrim volunteers quickly arrived on scene to gather information, while Shomrim’s IT team reviewed surveillance footage with the store owner to determine the suspect’s direction of travel.

Cameras showed the man casually walking down the block with the air conditioner before placing it into a parked vehicle. With a clear description of both the suspect and the car, Shomrim volunteers spread out and began canvassing the area.

One of the volunteers soon spotted a vehicle matching the description and kept eyes on it while notifying police.

The NYPD responded and questioned the suspect. After reviewing the footage with the help of Shomrim, officers confirmed the theft. The suspect was taken into custody, and the air conditioner was recovered and returned to the store.
