The incident began when a witness spotted the suspect cutting the lock off a parked moped and riding off. A call was immediately placed to the Shomrim hotline.

Shomrim volunteers responded within moments, located the suspect, and kept him in sight while notifying the NYPD. As the suspect continued moving through the area, volunteers followed from a safe distance, relaying updates to responding officers.

The NYPD arrived shortly after and, with the help of Shomrim, took the suspect into custody.

The stolen moped was recovered.
