A woman known to law enforcement for prior offenses was arrested Friday afternoon after she was caught stealing packages in a local neighborhood. The arrest was made by the NYPD with the help of Shomrim.
The incident began when Shomrim received a call on their hotline about a suspicious woman going from house to house, looking into driveways and front porches. Volunteers responded immediately and began following her discreetly from a distance. After a few blocks, they observed her stealing a package from a home.
Additional volunteers were alerted to assist in tracking the suspect while the NYPD was notified. A Shomrim volunteer maintained visual contact with the woman until officers arrived on scene.
Thanks to the coordinated response, the NYPD took the suspect into custody without incident. Authorities later confirmed that she is a repeat offender with five open warrants, including for stealing packages and early-morning deliveries.
Local residents expressed relief at the arrest and were grateful to have their stolen packages returned.
