A suspect was arrested today following swift coordination between the NYPD and Shomrim patrol after a pepper spray assault on an elderly man around 7:00 p.m.
The incident occurred at a crosswalk as the elderly man was slowly crossing the street. A white sedan attempted to run a red light, and the driver, frustrated by the man’s pace, got out of the vehicle. Without provocation, the suspect pepper-sprayed the victim at close range, leaving him disoriented and in distress.
Shomrim’s intelligence team tracked the suspect using surveillance cameras and provided real-time updates to NYPD officers, enabling police to promptly locate and arrest the individual.
The suspect is now in custody, with charges pending as detectives continue their investigation. The victim initially received treatment at the scene for the effects of the pepper spray. Hatzolah transported him to Maimonides Hospital for facial and eye injuries.
This incident underscores the importance of close collaboration between Shomrim and the NYPD in ensuring public safety and delivering swift responses to emergencies.
