On Motza Shabbos, Shomrim received a call from a local resident reporting the theft of two expensive air-conditioning units, valued at $1,500, from his backyard. The theft occurred earlier that Shabbos morning.
Shomrim responded immediately, assisting the caller with filing a police report. Meanwhile, Shomrim’s IT team reviewed security footage from nearby cameras. The video revealed that early Saturday morning, the suspect had exited a vehicle, entered the victim’s driveway, and stolen the two air-conditioning units before fleeing the scene. A clear image of the suspect’s van was then shared with Shomrim volunteers on patrol to be on the lookout.
The breakthrough came that afternoon when a Shomrim volunteer on patrol spotted the suspect’s vehicle moving through the area. The volunteer quickly alerted other Shomrim members, who responded and began following the van. After the vehicle came to a stop and the suspect exited, volunteers confirmed that the driver matched the individual seen in the surveillance footage.
Shomrim immediately notified the NYPD, who responded promptly. Upon confrontation, the suspect admitted to committing the theft. The NYPD arrested the suspect with the assistance of Shomrim.
