The incident began when the Shomrim hotline received multiple calls from concerned residents and victims reporting a vehicle driving recklessly and striking several cars. Shomrim volunteers responded immediately while simultaneously alerting the NYPD.
Moments after crashing into multiple vehicles, the suspects stopped and switched drivers an apparent attempt to avoid detection. One of the victims who had begun following the car witnessed the switch firsthand. Shomrim volunteers caught up a few blocks later and continued to follow the vehicle while providing real-time updates to responding officers.
Shortly thereafter, the NYPD was able to stop the car. Both occupants were arrested for driving while intoxicated and for hit-and-run.
