Two Suspects Arrested After Attempted Gypsy Scam and Counterfeit Sales

A Shomrim volunteer on patrol observed a vehicle whose occupants were attempting a gypsy-style scam, calling people over to their car in an effort to deceive them. In addition to the scam attempt, the suspects were also engaged in selling counterfeit merchandise directly from the vehicle.

The volunteer followed the suspects while requesting additional Shomrim volunteers to help keep the operation under watch. Shomrim notified the NYPD and maintained surveillance until officers arrived. Police moved in, stopped the vehicle, and arrested two suspects at the scene.

A search of the car uncovered a large quantity of counterfeit items, including fake watches, imitation Apple AirPods, and other fraudulent goods that had already been sold.

Thanks to the coordinated effort between Shomrim volunteers and the NYPD, both the scam attempt and the counterfeit sales were brought to a halt before more people could be taken advantage of.
