Suspect Arrested After Breaking Into Apartment

A resident of a multi-family building stepped out of his apartment and immediately noticed a mess near his neighbor’s door, suggesting that someone may have tried to force it open. Unsure what had happened, he contacted another neighbor to ask if anything unusual was taking place.

The neighbor was not nearby and did not know what was going on, so Shomrim was contacted. While Shomrim volunteers responded, the Shomrim IT team reviewed the building’s exterior cameras. The footage showed a suspicious individual entering the building, but no footage showed him leaving. This raised concerns that the person was still somewhere inside.

Shomrim volunteers quickly established a perimeter around the building and began checking each floor and hallway. During the search, they identified one apartment showing indications that someone may have forced their way inside. When volunteers reached the door, it was locked, and movement could be heard from within.

The NYPD was dispatched, and officers entered the apartment, where they located the suspect inside the residence. The individual was placed under arrest for breaking into the apartment.

Residents are reminded never to open their doors late at night if they are not expecting anyone.
If you see anything suspicious, immediately contact Shomrim’s 24-hour emergency line: 718-871-6666.
