Shomrim Recovers Dining Room Chairs and Deposit After Weeks of Runaround

A local resident recently found himself in a frustrating situation after trusting an upholstery business advertised in a local Heimishe community publication. The company, which offers pick-up service for furniture, came to collect his dining room chairs well in advance of Pesach. The caller left a large deposit, hoping to have the chairs back in time for Yom Tov.

As Pesach approached, he reached out for updates only to be met with excuses. With just days remaining, he pleaded with the upholsterer to return at least some of the chairs. A few were returned as a “favor,” while the rest remained in the shop. He even went down himself after Pesach to try retrieving them, but to no avail.

Weeks passed. With Shavuos now approaching, the chairs were still missing, and the upholsterer continued ignoring his calls.

Finally, realizing the matter was going nowhere, he contacted Shomrim.

Once involved, Shomrim moved quickly. They gathered details, coordinated with volunteers, and located both the upholsterer and his warehouse. Their research showed that the warehouse was in Far Rockaway. Shomrim of Boro Park reached out to Far Rockaway Shomrim/RNSP (Rockaway Nassau Safety Patrol) to assist. Far Rockaway Shomrim verified the location and accompanied the caller to the premises.

With the situation clearly established, Shomrim successfully recovered not only all the remaining chairs, but also the deposit, which was no small sum.

To ensure the chairs would be ready in time for Yom Tov, Shomrim went one step further and helped the caller transfer them to a reliable and professional upholstery shop, where the work is already underway and expected to be completed before Shavuos.
