A potentially life-threatening situation was averted last night in Boro Park thanks to the alertness of local residents and the rapid response of Shomrim.
Concerned neighbors near 44th Street and 16th Avenue contacted Shomrim after detecting a strong odor of gas in the area. Upon arrival, Shomrim volunteers confirmed the smell and used a gas detector to trace its source. As they approached a home on the block, the readings began to spike indicating a serious leak.
Inside the house, an elderly couple was asleep, completely unaware of the danger. Shomrim quickly woke the couple and safely escorted them outside. Hatzolah was called to examine them as a precaution, and thankfully, both were found to be in good condition.
The gas leak was significant, and neighbors and responders alike acknowledged the potentially deadly outcome that was avoided through quick thinking and coordinated action.
