A dangerous situation was quickly brought under control thanks to the rapid response of Shomrim volunteers and the NYPD.
A call came in to the Shomrim hotline reporting a man who appeared to be intoxicated and attempting to drive off. Shomrim volunteers responded quickly, spotted the vehicle, and immediately notified the NYPD. As they followed from a safe distance, the driver began hitting parked cars and driving recklessly through the neighborhood.
At one point, the driver began speeding down sidewalks, posing a serious danger and narrowly missing pedestrians. Volunteers alerted additional units to assist in monitoring the vehicle and continued providing real-time updates to the NYPD.
After a few minutes, the driver lost control and crashed into a tree, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
He was taken into custody by the NYPD with the help of Shomrim volunteers for driving while intoxicated, striking multiple vehicles, and endangering public safety.
No injuries were reported.
