Arsonist Caught After Setting Cars Ablaze on Multiple Nights, Thanks to Shomrim and NYPD

A suspect who set multiple vehicles on fire over two early mornings in Boro Park is now in custody, thanks to the determined efforts of Shomrim volunteers and the NYPD.

The Shomrim hotline first received calls reporting vehicles set ablaze during the early morning hours on two separate nights. Shomrim volunteers immediately responded and went door to door, reviewing hours of surveillance footage to identify the suspect and piece together his movements.

After carefully gathering footage and details, volunteers established the suspect’s description and pattern including the streets he used and the direction he typically walked during the early morning hours.

On the third night, with that information in hand, Shomrim volunteers increased patrols and canvassing in the targeted area. During the patrol, a volunteer spotted a suspicious individual entering a parked vehicle and removing valuables. As the suspect exited the vehicle, volunteers confirmed he matched the description of the person seen setting the vehicles on fire.

Volunteers maintained visual contact as the suspect walked toward a nearby park and began going through the stolen items. The NYPD was immediately notified and responded within moments, taking the suspect into custody for breaking into the vehicle, stealing property, and setting two vehicles on fire.
